Mum and baby safe and well after human placenta found in park

A mum and baby have been found safe and well after human placenta was discovered at a park in Oldham, police have confirmed.

In an earlier appeal, Greater Manchester Police said it was working to establish the circumstances of the incident and ensure no one had been harmed.

The force said the discovery, in the town‘s Werneth Park, was being treated as a welfare investigation.

Officers believed the mother and baby involved could be in need of medical attention, with the birth having occurred in the last 24 hours.

Police say they have now located the mother and baby and added that they are both safe and doing well.

Having worked with medical professionals, police are satisfied that their identities match the placenta found.

The police scene will now close, with officers having concluded that there are “no untoward circumstances”.

A spokesperson for the force thanked the members of the public who provided assistance and cooperated with the park’s closure.

The spokesperson added that they hope the update “provides closure to any earlier concerns”.
